Caught by Chloe

Chloe caught me… and I had no idea.

First thing this morning, Chloe walked up to me and hugged me REAL tight. An extended hug. Longer than any normal hug she’d ever given me.

Then she looked up at me and said, “I want you to know that God is taking better care of Mom than you can.”

Surprised… I said, “Why are you telling me this first thing in the morning?”

“Because I heard you.”

“Wait. What?”

“When did you hear me? What did you hear? Who was I talking to?”

She smiled REAL BIG at me and said, “When you were praying in your room late last night. I came to tell you something and you were praying and asking God to please take good care of Mom. I heard you. Don’t try and deny it Dad.”

She smiled more like she’d caught me.

“I’m not denying anything. But WAIT… what else did you hear?”

“I heard enough to know that you really love Mom. And that you really love me. And I just wanted you to know… you know… that God is taking better care of Mom than you can. Mom’s okay.”

Frankly, I was a bit discombobulated by the whole ordeal. But in my mind I started thinking… Is she comforting me? Of course. But what else might she have heard.

“So, how much did you hear? What else?”

Chloe smiled super-big and said, “Enough to know.”

“Know what? Do I need to start closing my door?” I asked.

When Chloe heard that, she initially gave me the stink-eye. Then, just as quickly, she gave me some serious puppy-dog eyes and said…

“Please don’t shut the door.”

Then she smiled real big (AGAIN)… and zipped away

Why do I have a feeling this won’t be the last time… I’m caught.

Why do I have a feeling… that may be a good thing?
