Please, please watch this video. I can’t describe how happy it made me.
Frankly, it made me cry tears of joy.
This little dude… he CAN’T WAIT for his buddy to get it right. And when his buddy DOES, his “hype” is…
O U T S T A N D I N G.
Initially, his buddy looks, maybe, a little hesitant. He takes his time and slowly reaches for and chooses the correct number.
BAM! His friend goes ALL OUT!
The next time he has a bit more confidence. And when he chooses correct again?
“THAT’S MY BOY!”
Finally, his confidence is brimming and again… when he chooses correctly? Just watch the video.
There are SO many things that made me happy about this video.
His teacher joyfully laughing because she obviously saw the beauty in this event. The little boy’s growing confidence as he continues to choose correctly. And especially… his little friend HYPING HIM UP.
I have no idea who this little “HYPE” dude is. But I want to know HIM. I want to know how he became the wonderful friend he is. I want to know who he was watching that modeled this for him. And I want to be around HIS MODEL moving forward.
What a wonderful lesson for all of us, huh?
I think all too often we tend to compete and compare ourselves with each other. Hoping that we can somehow feel like winners.
This little “HYPE” dude reminded me of a lesson my Dad taught me when I was a kid.
It was after a baseball game in which I played where I was “on deck” (or the next batter to hit) when the guy in front of me ended the game by getting a clutch hit.
HE won the game for us. I wanted it to be me.
As I approached my Dad (remember, after we won) I was a bit unhappy that it was not me.
In that moment, he saw my disappointment and pulled me aside and said…
When you can start celebrating the success of others, it will help you have more of your own success. ALWAYS, ALWAYS celebrate others when they do something good.
That lesson… has allowed me so much more joy in my life than many others.
And my guess?
This little “hype man” dude is going to experience more than his share of joy in this life, too.
Frankly… it seems like he already is, huh?
